Culture Resource Announces the Results
Of the 2006 Production Awards Program for Young Arab Artists & Writers
On Wednesday the 17th of January 2007 Culture Resource held a reception at the Egyptian Centre for Culture and Art (Makan) to announce the names of the winners of the 2006 Production Awards Program for Young Arab Artists & Writers. This program aims to encourage and support a new generation of Arab artists and writers by funding their early projects in the various fields of arts and culture.
This year, Culture Resource received over 100 applications from different Arab countries. The Artistic Board of Culture Resource put together 5 jury committees of well established artists, writers and academics from all over the Arab world to evaluate the applications and recommend awards. The jury committee in the field of literature included Alaa El Deeb (Egypt), Fadhil Al Azzawi (Iraq), and Najwa Barakat (Lebanon); In Film: Ateyat El Abnoudy (Egypt), Mohamed Makholouf (Libya), and Nidal Aldebss (Syria); In Visual Arts: Bayan Kanoo (Bahrain), Mahmoud Al Obaidi (Iraq), and Sakina Rharib (Morocco); In Music: Andre Hajj (Lebanon), Azza Madyan (Egypt), and Khaled Jubran (Palestine); and In the field of Theatre: Hanan Kassab Hassan (Syria), Menha EL Batrawy (Egypt), and Rajaa Ben Ammar (Tunisia).
Based on the jury committees’ evaluation, the following 10 artists and writers were selected to receive the 2006 Production Awards:

Abd El Aziz El Rashedy – Morocco
Adel Abd Elwahab – Egypt
Noha El Maadawy – Egypt
Abdenour Zahzah – Algeria
In Visual Arts
Amer Shomaly – Palestine
Weam El Masry – Egypt
Sherif Sarhan – Palestine
Diala Samy – Jordan
