Contemporary Oriental Music from Palestine: Khaled Jubran
The Palestinian composer Khaled Jubran presented his new program “ Mazamir” for the first time in Cairo on Thursday 10 February 2005 at the Arabic Music Institue Theatre. The concert was presented by Culture Resource (Al Mawred Al Thaqafy) in collaboration with Al Urmawi center for Mashreq Music.
In his new musical programme, Mazamir, which will tour in February 2005 to Cairo, Bahrain, Muscat and London, Khaled Jubran introduces 6 of his new compositions “Mazamir” (Psalms) that all combine a deep understanding of the classical oriental styles and the complex intensity of contemporary music.
Khaled Jubran is a composer and a master player of Buzuq and Oud. He was born in Gallile to a musical family in 1961. Between 1985 and 1992 he studied music composition and theory at the Rubin Academy in Jerusalem where he later worked as a teacher. In 1994 he founded and headed the Arabic music department in the Palestinian National Conservatory in Ramallah. In 2000 he founded Al Urmawi Center for Mashreq Music which he currently leads. Al Urmawi is a Palestinian institution that works to promote excellence and innovation in Arabic music and to develop the skills and knowledge of young Arab musicians.
