Three years after her last appearance in Egypt
Kamilya Jubran at El Genaina Theatre
Culture Resource, in collaboration with the Swiss Arts Council (Pro-Helvetia), proudly presents two concerts for Palestinian artist Kamilya Jubran at El Genaina Theatre in Al-Azhar Park.
The first concert takes place on Tuesday 17th of July at 9:00 p.m. This concert is featuring the project “Wameedd” which is the result of the dynamic and symbiotic creative process ofKamilya Jubran and Swiss artist Werner Hasler. In the unique opportunity of their meeting, they have created an experiment with no suppositions or fixed destination. They have different cultural and artistic roots but their worlds intermingle.
Wameedd is the product of Kamilya’s unique vocal skill and limitless imagination. Arabic words and phonemic rhythms are wrapped in her original compositions. Wameedd is founded on the roots of Werner’s “vocal instrument,” his melodies and his unique talents in electronic music. They both inhabit common ground and share a powerful vision. They continue to question and move in uncharted territories towards a new horizon. The creation of Wameedd comes from a unique alchemy, inhabits a harmonious universe and culminates in the distinctive, indefinable language of art.
The second concert takes place on Wednesday 18th of July, and features Kamilya Jubran in a solo performance presenting her own original compositions.
Kamilya is creating and performing her own songs and music while roaming the in-between spaces of the world and non-commercial milieus with a number of European musicians. In Jerusalem and for twenty years, Kamilya was Sabreen’s lead song performer, and player of Oud, Qanoon, and other oriental instruments. From 1982 to 2002, Kamilya along with Sabreen represented the voice of resistance; struggle for freedom, and of a deep and dynamic artistic-political process that created a new style of a unique modern Arabic song. Since May 2002, Kamilya toured with Mahattaat, Wameedd, and her Solo Show in several European and Arab cities, including Cairo.
Culture Resource has previously presented Kamilya Jubran in 2004’s Spring Festival.
