Khaled Mattawa is a Libyan-American poet, writer, and university professor. He published six poetry collections in English and a critical study of the Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish. He co-edited several anthologies of Arab American literature and translated many contemporary Arab poetry collections. Mattawa received many prestigious awards, including the Academy of American Poets Fellowship, the PEN Prize for Poetry in Translation, and the MacArthur. Mattawa was recently elected as a Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets and inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Mattawa is a Professor of English language and literature at the University of Michigan and directs the Arete Foundation for Arts and Culture in Libya.
