Adel Abdelwahab

Adel Abdel Wahab is an Egyptian theater director, curator, playwright, and cultural manager. In 2005, he began working as a project manager with various institutions. He is the founder and artistic director of the Hewar Independent Theatre Company, which realized various theater projects in Alexandria and Cairo, including Mountain Language: Speak it or live it (2007), presented at the Alexandria Contemporary Art Forum, Townhouse Gallery, Cairo, and the 2009 Biennale of Young Artists in Skopje, Macedonia, Political Manifesto (2012), presented at the Rawabet Space for Arts, Cairo, and Music for Unstageable Theater (2016), presented at Silent Green in Berlin and the Goethe-Institut in Cairo. In March 2012, Abdel Wahab, together with the Hewar Independent Theatre Company, initiated the contemporary theater forum Theater is a Must in Alexandria. Since then, he has managed and curated nine editions of the forum, the most recent of which was held in November 2024 under the title Repossess. In 2014, he was selected as a fellow of the International Forum at the Berlin Theatre Meeting. Adel is particularly interested in the evolution of independent theater and the cultural scene in the aftermath of the revolution and has written several articles addressing this theme.
