Samar with the Revolution
Samar: is an Arabic word referring to tales told to companions in the evening under the moonlight.
In his writings analyzing history, Noam Chomsky, a linguistics professor and political activist says that “History reshapes by those who own it”. Chomsky is neither the first nor the last to argue against what is often referred to as “The Objective History.”
Each documented history has been based on one perspective. Thus claiming objectivity will just be a new lie to present the perceptive of the domineering and winning side.
Contradictions in portraying and discussing the clearest and frankest issues have been witnessed amidst the propaganda supporting the idea of objective journalism or art. Thus dealing with history with a suspicious conscience is inevitable, where one would not be able to overlook distorted realities he/she has been raised up to believe in. The importance of narratives as the main source of knowledge and documentation becomes very clear in difficult times entailing pondering such as the Arab Revolutions. In such times, narratives help to free history of its pretentious attempt to be objective.
In this event, nine individuals gather from Bahrain, Egypt, Libya, Syria, Tunisia and Yemen to tell their stories in relation to the revolutions. The participants of various backgrounds and specializations include: A journalist, a physician, a photographer and a retired football player. The stories portray their personal experiences as individuals who have been deeply involved and thus have deeper insights to the events.
The stories will be left to the personal judgments of audience who are entitled to believe them or not. They are to be regarded as evening tales and not to be used as basis for analysis to current conditions.
