After more than two decades dedicated to fostering creativity and celebrating cultural diversity across the Arab region, we end this year by bidding farewell to one chapter and welcoming another under new leadership.
To mark this moment, we invite you to a journey back in time through “Twenty Springs and Twenty Survivals”, a film that retraces Mawred’s story from its earliest beginnings to the present day. The story unfolds in 2003, when a group of cultural activists and artists from the Arab region gathered to envision an organization that would support emerging artists, foster cross-border dialogue, and work to make culture and its production accessible to all. By the end of that year, Mawred was officially registered, and in 2004, it launched its first program, “Production Awards”, which continues to this day, followed by 43 programs and projects, all designed to respond to the evolving needs of artists and cultural actors across the region.
The film chronicles Mawred’s journey through its many transformations, reflecting its sustained commitment to safeguarding artistic freedom, supporting creative projects, advancing professional development, and promoting knowledge production in the arts and culture sector. It also highlights Mawred’s ongoing role in supporting creative organizations and initiatives within an increasingly complex landscape, contributing to the development of an integrated and interconnected cultural ecosystem across the Arab region. Featuring testimonies from artists, cultural actors, experts, and organizations, the film celebrates the network Mawred has built over the years, a community it values as a source of solidarity, collaboration, and collective imagination.
From all of us at Mawred, we wish you, your loved ones, and our communities across the region and the diaspora a new beginning filled with freedom, creativity, and tranquility.
