Performing Arts
Metro Al Madina was established in 2012 as a production company in Beirut. Its aim was to create a cultural space for the visual arts, by developing an interactive relationship with its diverse audience. The project was launched by a group of theater enthusiasts who came together around the need to reinvent the musical theater and produce performances that speak to the status-quo.
Since its inception, Metro has produced a myriad of artworks in various fields, from theatrical performances to concerts, through cabarets and other artistic genres. In addition to its own productions, it has hosted a number of works by Lebanese, Arab and foreign artists, and has participated in numerous co-productions. In addition to its performances, Metro has become a safe space for a wide and diverse audience.
Metro Al Madina's shows became famous and some of them lasted for many years, most notably Hishik Bishik and Bar Farouk. Its productions have been featured on Lebanese, Arab and international stages. Since the beginning of the crisis, Metro has started to rethink its role, modes of operation and programs to create a business model that is sustainable amidst the current instabilities.
