Mawred is pleased to announce the grantees of the 4th round of Mawa3eed for the year 2017. The Mawa3eed grant mirrors Mawred’s vision of supporting cultural and artistic exchange between all Arab countries.
The grantees are:
Al Kamandjati Association (Palestine): The association will invite the Iraqi traditional music ensemble Maqamat Baghdadia to take part in Al Kamandjati Festival, an international festival dedicated to spiritual and traditional music, organized annually by the association and will be held this year from 5 to 22 April 2018.
Mohamed Ben Slama Sextet (Tunisia): The band will travel from Tunisia to Morocco to take part in the 4th edition of the Karane Festival in Oujda. The band will present the fruit of a musical project that involved the documentation and live recording of more than 50 rhythms fused into a modern experimental composition using electronic musical instruments to control the rhythms.
Fouad and Mounib band (Egypt): The band will travel from Egypt to Morocco to perform in a concert in the 4th edition of the Karane Festival in Oujda, and to also hold musical workshops in the framework of the festival.
Maud Vareillaud Bouzzine, visual artist (Morocco): Maud will travel from France to Morocco to take part in an artistic residence in Taroudant where she will work on a project to visually record urban transformation in Morocco, bringing to bear diverse artistic styles and methods.
Theater = a Must Forum (Egypt): The forum will invite the cast of “The Third Circle: Variations” from France to perform in Egypt as part of the activities of the Theater = a Must Forum. The work, which combines artistic installation with contemporary dance performance, treats the subject of dance from the perspective of Islamic law.
Mobile Theater Workshop (Sudan): The company will travel from Sudan to Algeria to present “The Call or the Game of Death” at the Maghreb Theater Festival. Written by the Sudanese playwright al-Tayyib al-Mahdi, the play treats questions of identity in the framework of the North-South question.
The jury for this round consisted of the Saudi filmmaker and photographer Awadh Al Hamazany, Tunisian theater and film producer Habib Belhadi and Syrian cultural director and researcher Rana Yazaji.
