On the sidelines of its General Assembly & Artistic Board meetings held on 27 and 28 June in Muscat, Oman, Culture Resource organized a reception on the evening of Saturday, 29 June, in partnership with Bait Al Zubair Foundation at their premises in Muscat. During the reception, Culture Resource’s members and team met with a group of Omani artists and cultural actors to present the organization’s programs and projects and explore opportunities for collaboration and mutual support.
The meeting coincided with Culture Resource’s 20th anniversary. In her opening statement, the director of the organization, Helena Nassif, highlighted that this milestone comes at a critical time for the Arab region, as we bear witness to the ongoing genocide in Gaza and attacks on South Lebanon, and emphasized the vital role of arts and culture at this moment in telling the stories of our dispossession and envisioning a more just, liberated, and peaceful future in the region. She also stressed the importance of building deeper and tighter connections with Omani artists and cultural actors. On another note, the vice president of the Artistic Board, Habiba Laloui, referred to Oman’s cultural uniqueness, which Culture Resource regards as a cornerstone and gateway to expanding its work across the Gulf region, as the organization “aspires for Arab culture to stand as a whole.” She also called for fostering artistic and cultural exchange between Oman and the wider Arab region.
The reception also featured the premiere of a film chronicling Culture Resource’s journey since its inception, highlighting its achievements and impact on the arts and culture sector in the Arab region over the past two decades. The film showcased the organization’s adaptation to various developments and changes in the region, as well as its responsiveness to the evolving needs of the arts and culture sector.
