Al-Mawred is pleased to announce the recipients of the travel grants in the first round of Mawa3eed 2018. Mawa3eed is one of the programs that embodies Al-Mawred’s vision for supporting the dissemination and exchange of culture and the arts between all Arab countries.

Grantees:

Mohssin Harraki, Visual Artist (Morocco): The grant enables him to travel from France to Tunisia to work on an artistic project that will be displayed in the Interference Festival which is an exhibition of light art staged in the historic Medina quarter of Tunis. This year brings the second edition of this festival, which will be held from 6 to 9 September.  Prior to production period, workshops will be held in which participant artists will develop their works in collaboration with a team of volunteers.

Al Kamandjati Association (Palestine): The Mawa3eed grant supports partially the travel of Eight Palestinian musicians to Lebanon to work together with a group consisting of musicians from the Lebanese National Higher Conservatory of Music and from the Al Kamandjati Association in Lebanon. Together, they will prepare for the annual Al Kamandjati concert which will take place in Al Madina theatre in Beirut on 16 August 2018.

Lynn Adib (Syria), Musician: The grant supports her and her band’s travel from France to Egypt to take part in the Cairo International Jazz Festival, an annual cultural event that hosts jazz musicians and bands from around the world for three days in Cairo. This year, the Cairo Jazz Festival will be celebrating its tenth anniversary.

Nada Sabet (Egypt), Artistic Director of Noon Creative Enterprise: The grant supports Sabet and the Noon Creative Theatre Troupe to travel from Egypt to Lebanon where they will go on tour with their play “Ta al-Sakina” (Silent T). The play will be performed six times in Beirut and elsewhere in the country.

The jury for this Mawa3eed round consisted of the Kuwaiti writer and cultural activist Hoda al-Shawa, the Palestinian cultural manager and culture policies expert Fatin Farhat and the Moroccan poet, novelist and broadcaster Yassin Adnan.
