Bassam Mortada is a director, producer, and co-founder of SEE MEDIA production. He studied independent filmmaking and collaborated with various Egyptian civil society organizations to document their activities and build the capacities of their staff. In 2008, he joined Al-Masry Media Corporation, where he trained journalists in video storytelling and contributed to the establishment of the first independent Web-documentary TV in Egypt. In 2012, he directed his first feature documentary ‘Reporting...a Revolution’, which premiered at the Berlinale Film Festival and toured many festivals worldwide. His documentary “Waiting for His Descent” won the first prize for documentary at the Jesuit Film Festival and his short documentary film "Searching for a Gazelle" was screened at the Cairo International Film Festival and other festivals. His feature documentary project "Abu Zaabal Prison 89" won the Robert Bosch Award for International Co-Production. Mortada works as a producer at SEE MEDIA, which focuses on neglected narratives and stories. He also hosts a podcast called “Cinema Sayfi”.
