Hassan Darsi was born in Casablanca and studied at the Ecole Supérieure des Arts Plastiques et Visuels de Mons in Belgium. In 1995, he founded the project La Source du Lion, a studio for artists in Casablanca. His artistic activity is strongly influenced by his experiences, daily life, and environment, often taking the form of participatory projects and utilizing different mediums. Darsi’s work has always been closely linked to his country's social, cultural, political, and economic context and its interactions with the global context. His journey combines gestures and productions that challenge the simple art object as a horizon of creative activity. The works and projects he develops are characterized by a critical and socio-political positioning, which is expressed through the notion of the project, as a privileged tool of action. He is deeply convinced that art has an essential role to play in the cultural and human development of his city, his country, and the world as a whole, and for many years he has tried to signal, highlight, and carry out works and projects as triggers for citizen and political awareness. Today, after frequently using the city as his favorite terrain, he desires to explore other often forgotten public spaces, those of the countryside of the Greater Casablanca-Settat region, symbolically located between the economic capital, Casablanca, and the political and administrative capital of Rabat. The objective is to experiment with new practices and artistic forms based on a project and a context to create a common thread that contributes to weaving social bonds. A project that is part of the artistic field while proposing possible social, ecological, and economic alternatives to a territory.
