Hebba Sherif is a Cairo-based Egyptian writer, literary critic, cultural manager and study consultant. She ‎holds a Ph.D. in comparative literature from Cairo University, where she was formerly an ‎associate professor in the Faculty of Arts. She has headed the Swiss Arts Council in Cairo ‎‎(Pro Helvetia) and writes in both German and Arabic about cultural interaction and ‎comparative literature. She is also a translator from German into Arabic. Her translations ‎include the works of Christa Wolf and Uwe Timm, Reinhard Schulze and Peter Handke. For the year 2004/2005, she was selected ‎as a jury member for Litrix.de, an online translation program. In 2010, she was chosen as ‎a member of the consulting board of the National Centre of Translation in Cairo. Hebba has ‎published three books in Arabic.
