Karima Mansour is a choreographer, performer and educator based in Cairo. She is the founder and artistic director of the Cairo Contemporary Dance Center and the founder of MAAT Dance Company, both of which operate under the umbrella of MAAT for Contemporary Art which was also established by Karima in 1999.
Karima received a BA in Film from the High Institute of Cinema at the Academy of Arts in Cairo and graduated from the London Contemporary Dance School, where she obtained degrees in Contemporary Dance at both a bachelor's and a master's level. She has taught at the Cairo Opera Dance Theatre Company, worked as an assistant professor at the Ballet Institute of the Academy of Arts and lectured as an adjunct professor of dance in the Performance and Visual Arts Department at The American University In Cairo.
Karima’s overarching initiatives continue to address the larger field of dance through choreographing works, organizing workshops and reaching out to the larger community that is invested in dance by hosting film screenings and discussions revolving around this topic.
In 2019, Karima was chosen by the International Theatre Institute to author the annual ‘International Dance Day Message’. She was also named a ‘Top 15 Inspiring Egyptian of the Decade in Arts & Culture. Karima continues to work as a freelance choreographer, performer and teacher both nationally and internationally while creating, performing and developing her own choreographic work and language as an artist.
