Safha Jadida (New Leaf) – 2005
The 2nd Literary Platform for Young Arab Writers in Bahrain
The 2nd Literary Platform for Young Arab Writers “Safha Jadida” was held in Bahrain during the period 20 to 26 December 2005. “Safha Jadida” is organized by Culture Resource (Al Mawred Al Thaqafy) in collaboration with Al Riwaq Gallery and Al Watan Newspaper in Bahrain. “Safha Jadida” was held for the first time in July 2004 in Egypt and has attracted a wide number of young Arab writers.

In “Safha Jadida” 18 young Arab writers between ages fifteen and thirty from eleven countries: Jordan, Bahrain, Tunis, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Sultanate of Oman, Syria, Palestine, Libya, Egypt and Morocco met for one week and engaged in creative writing workshops and discussions.
The platform included 2 lectures by the Bahraini literary critic Mohamed Al Banki and the Egyptian journalist Sayed Mahmoud and a presentation by the Bahraini poet Kassem Haddad.

The discussions were moderated by the Libyan American poet Khaled Mettawe and the Egyptian writer Sahar El-Mougy. A book documenting these discussions and including selected texts by some of the participants will be published soon.
