Open call to apply for grants

for local and regional projects in cultural policies development

Culture Resource has announced a new call for funding applications for projects that seek to monitor and develop cultural policies at the local or regional levels in the Arab world. The call is open to organisations, individuals and groups from 12 Arab countries until 5 June 2016.

Grants of up to $8,000 are awarded for each project selected. An independent jury made up of cultural policy experts from the Arab region is responsible for selecting the projects.

Applications will be accepted from the following countries: Jordan, Algeria, Iraq, Morocco, Sudan, Yemen, Tunisia, Syria, Palestine, Lebanon, Egypt and Mauritania.

The call is open to the following individuals or entities from the Arab region:

  • Cultural, artistic and research organisations and groups.
  • Individual practitioners in the arts.
  • Cultural managers.
  • Legal professionals.

The call is open to the following types of projects:
Applications will be accepted for projects that seek to monitor, assess, research and develop the state of cultural policies in the above-mentioned countries in terms of the following points:

  • Freedom of expression and cultural rights.
  • Making culture more widely available in Arab societies.
  • Financing culture.
  • Exploring forms and methods of community and professional organisation for artists and cultural groups.

The duration of the project may not exceed one year.

Projects may consist, for example, of studies or research, awareness-raising campaigns, seminars, conferences, study circles, training workshops, capacity building activities, publications or any other type of activities that serve the above-mentioned purposes.
