A Culture Resource initiative has brought 18 young representatives of six cultural institutions from different parts the country together in Tunis to review work strategies, cultural activities and ways to communicate with local communities in order to heighten public enthusiasm for Tunisian cultural production. The six-day meeting, which took place from 20 to 25 October, took the form of a technical workshop organised by Culture Resource as part of its Abbara program, which seeks to bolster the institutionalization process of local cultural initiatives in five Arab countries (Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Syria and Yemen). The Tunisian organisations that participated in the workshop were Mash’hed Cultural Association (Gafsa), Thala True Theatre Association (Thala), Massar Association for Cultural Development (Manouba), Show for Culture and the Arts (Sfax), Association l’Art Vivant (Tunis) and the Tunisian Cinema Clubs Association (Tunis).
Culture Resource launched the Abbara programme in 2011 and the current round is the fourth. By now, the programme has supported more than 50 cultural associations, among which are 14 Tunisian cultural initiatives and associations. Abbara promotes the institutional development of cultural organisations. Towards this end it offers training courses in cultural management, financial management and how to develop innovative programmes and activities targeting local communities with the purpose of increasing local involvement in culture.
