The seventh round of the Abbara program held its second training workshop on 22-26 May at the premises of L’Art Rue (Dar Bach Hamba) in Tunis, focussing on financial planning and management, and communications.

This was the second in-person meeting for the participant organizations of this round. It was attended by 12 participants from 6 organizations in person, while 6 participants from 3 organizations attended online. The workshop was designed and facilitated by Therese Ghobriel (Egypt), a cultural manager and expert in financial management and organizational development and sustainability, and Naim Rammal and Shadi Assaad (Lebanon), both of whom are media and communications experts.

The workshop was designed to cover two of the six trajectories that shape the Abbara program’s capacity building component: the fourth trajectory “Resources and Sustainability”, which aims to empower the participant organizations by equipping them with the tools and knowhow to create an economic model suitable to their needs, and the fifth trajectory “Communications”, which aims to develop the participant organizations’ knowhow and skills in applying the concepts and tools of marketing and publicity, and better enable them to identify their marketing and publicity requirements in light of their current situation, the environment in which they operate and their strategic plan.

The workshop also included field visits to El Hamra Theater and La Fabrique art studio, as well as a musical evening organized by the Interference collective, bringing together the workshop participants, the Culture Resource team, and a number of cultural actors and artists in Tunisia.

The Abbara team is currently in the process of designing the technical assistance component of the program, which is tailored to the specific needs of each participant organization. Towards this end, the team engages tools such as an organizational mapping tool to identify the organizations’ priorities and needs.
